One person was killed, 51 were injured and 58 others held in stray violence during the first day of the 36-hour nationwide hartal called by BNP-led 18-party alliance on Wednesday.

In capital: Police held 28 hartal supporters from different parts of the capital during the hartal hours.
In Jessore: A man was killed and two others were injured as a bus crushed into a roadside tea stall while trying to leave the spot in a hurry to avert picketers’ attack around 7:00am in Khajura bus stand area.
In Rajshahi: Around 19 people were injured in separate clashes between law enforcers and hartal supporters in different spots in the morning.
In Chandpur: Police held five people from different areas of the district while conducting pro-hartal activities during the hartal.
In Bogra: At least seven people were injured as a bus driver lost control over steering when picketers chased it around 6:30am near Bogra Sadar.
In Narayanganj: Five people were injured in sporadic clashes between the policemen and BNP workers in the morning.
In Sylhet: Three Chhatra Dal leaders were injured as police charged batons on them while they were picketing in Jindabazar area around 8:30am.
In Pirojpur: Police held 17 BNP leaders and activists when picketers vandalised a CNG-run auto rickshaw in Dhuppasha area around 10am.
In Bhola: At least 15 opposition activists were injured and another one was held in separate clashes with law enforcers on Wednesday morning in the town.
In Noakhali: Police nabbed 37 BNP and Jamaat-Shibir activists from different places for pro-hartal activities during hartal.
In Rajbari: Law enforcers picked up 19 BNP and Jamaat-Shibir men from different areas of the district during hartal.
Earlier, opposition BNP-led 18-party alliance called 36-hour countrywide hartal from Wednesday demanding immediate release of leaders and activists of the party and protesting “genocide” conducted by cops. banglanews24.com
