Food Minister Dr Abdur Razzaque on Wednesday said the government will procure 10 lakh metric tonnes of rice and paddy this year.
The government will procure 1.50 lakh metric tonnes of paddy from May 1 till September 30, he said adding that the price of per kg paddy has been fixed at Tk 18.50 against Tk 18 last year.
The minister was talking to journalists after a meeting of the Food Planning and Monitoring Committee at his ministry.
The government will buy nine lakh metric tonnes of rice from millers and local bazaars from May 1 till September 30. “Rice will be bought at Tk 29 per kg.”
Besides, the government will procure 1.50 lakh metric tonnes of wheat from farmers from April 1 till June 30 this year at Tk 25 per kg, Dr Razzaque said.
