Foreign envoys urged to promote ‘Digital World 2016’

Dhaka – Bangladesh has called on foreign envoys to help ensure participation of ministers concerned and renowned IT farms of their respective countries in the upcoming “Digital World-2016”, , BSS news agency has reported.The request was made on Monday at a function styled “Ambassadors Night” held at State Guest House “Padma” here where ambassadors and high commissioners of 26 countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia and Russia, were present.
“The three-day Digital World-2016”, the biggest ever ICT exposition, would begin in the capital on October 20 with the participation of high- profile tech personalities from home and abroad and different IT-related institutions of the government.
Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam, State Minister for Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Zunaid Ahmed Palak, Executive Director of Bangladesh Computer Council S M Ashraful Islam, US Ambassador Marcia Stephens Bloom Bernicat, British envoy Alison Blake, Canadian High Commissioner Benoit-Pierre Laramee, Japanese envoy Masato Watanabe and Russian Ambassador Alexander I. Ignatov spoke on the occasion.
The foreign envoys highly praised Bangladesh’s enormous success in ICT sectors within a short span of time and expressed their countries’ eagerness to invest in Bangladesh’s very prospective ICT sector.
They also assured Bangladesh of extending allout support for ensuring participation of the ministers concerned and IT personnel and farms of their respective countries in the upcoming Digital World 2016.
Zunaid Ahmed Palak while giving an overview of the country’s target of ICT exports informed the envoys that a total of 12 high-tech parks have been developed and the work for building “Software Park” in Jessore is at the final stage.
He said the development work for “High Tech Park” at Kaliakoir in Gazipur district is progressing fast. The government is working to create employment opportunities for one million people in the ICT sector by 2018, he added’ the report said.
