Forge social movement against repression on women: Speakers

Speakers at a human chain programme here have asked all for launching vigorous social
movement involving people from all walks to bring an end to all sorts of repression and
violence against women.
District unit of Bangladesh Narimukti Kendra (BNK) organised the programme at Press
Club premises in the city on Saturday afternoon to observe the Women Repression
Prevention Day- 2013 for creating social awareness to resist repression on women.
Presided over by district unit President of BNK Ashrefa Khanom Lizu, women leaders
and activists, students, teachers, professionals, socio-cultural and human rights activists
and journalists participated in the programme.
Former Principal of Rangpur Carmichael College Professor Syeda Sahara Ferdous,
teachers of Begum Rokeya University Azizur Rahman and Kamrunnahar Khanom
Shikha, noted educationist Professor Malay Kishore Bhowmick, politician Anwar
Hossain Bablu, women leaders and activists, addressed.
The speakers stressed for involving the civil society members, public representatives,
politicians, community leaders, teachers, socio-cultural and professional activists for
ending repression and violence against women.
Narrating various types of repressions, they said women are being subjected to violence,
torture and abuse in every family, working places, roads, transports and everywhere due
to lack of adequate social awareness and cooperative attitudes.
Terming these social curses as the main barriers for flourishing women leadership and
their empowerment, they suggested for incorporation of the concept of gender equality in
the curriculums to help students developing hatred against these evils.
They strongly condemned the incidents of eve- teasing, sexual harassment, repressions
and violence against women including rape, gang rape, and murder after rape, acid
attacks and other forms of torture and abuse on the womenfolk.
The participants also vowed for launching vigorous social movements everywhere and
involving all people through creating mass public awareness for eradicating all types of
