Former HC judge summoned on contempt charge

Dhaka – The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court of Dhaka on Wednesday summoned former justice AHM Shamsuddin Choudhury Manik on charge of contempt of court for his alleged ‘contemptuous comments’ about Chief Justice SK Sinha. Magistrate AKM Moyeen Uddin Siddique of the CMM Court on Wednesday ordered former Justice Manik to appear before the court on May 21.
Earlier in the morning, former President of the Dhaka Metropolitan Bar Association Arfanuddin Khan filed the case in connection with Justice Manik’s comments against Chief Justice SK Sinha. Saleh Uddin Khan, a lawyer of the plaintiff, confirmed the matter to newsmen.
According to the case statement, Justice Manik in a TV talk-show at DBC news on March 15 commented that ‘SK Sinha was member of the infamous Shanti Committee in 1971’. Such comment defamed the apex court of the country, the case statement said.
