Fortnight long Barisal division tree fair begins

The fortnight long Barisal divisional tree fair started at Bangabandhu
Udyan premises of the city Sunday. The fair was aimed to raise
awareness of tree plantation and social forestation among the mass
people in the region.
Shohidul Alam, deputy commissioner, presided over the inauguration
session  and Advocate Talukder Md. Yunus, AL lawmaker, as chief guest
inaugurated the fair with the slogan “Gachh Lagiey Varbo E Desh, Toiri
Korbo Sukher Poribesh (Filling this country planting trees, will
create environment of happiness )’ .
Among others, the inaugural ceremony was attended by Khondokar Sirajul
Karim, additional director, directorate of agricultural extension,
Dewan Zafrul Hasan, divisional forest conservator, AKM Ehsanullah,
district superintendent of police.
It was followed by a rally which was participated by the
representatives of divisional, district, police, forest, agriculture,
education, social welfare, non-government organizations and
representatives of the stalls and nursery business owners.
The district and divisional forest, forest research institute, social
forestation, agriculture, plantation trial unit, agriculture research
and agriculture extension departments, different private nursery
owners opened more than fifty stalls at the fair.
The fair is open daily from 8:00am to 8:00 pm and will continue till July 22.
After the inauguration, the tree loving people rushed to visit the
fair and purchased trees, plants and seeds.
The fair has a collection of more than two hundred varieties of trees,
plants and different types of seeds ranging from Tk 5 to one lakh.
Among the trees and plants different categories of Bonsai trees with
price tags from 30 thousand to one lakh, fruit, flower, herbal plants
attracted the visitors and the stall owners hoped to do good business
if fair weather is there during the fair days. -Our Correspondent
