The Speedy Trail Tribunal-1 of Dhaka yesterday (Thursday) sentenced four BNP leaders and activists to death in a case lodged for killing two Awami League activists in 2003.Judge Shahed Nuruddin of the tribunal pronounced the verdict on Thursday afternoon. The court also imprisoned another BNP man for life while nine others were imprisoned for different periods in the same case.
The death sentenced convicts are Madaripur district unit BNP leader Mohiuddin Hawladar Moni, his son Sohag Hawladar and Hobi Sikdar and Halim Hawladar.
BNP’s Rajoir upazila President Shamsul Haque Hawladar was awarded life term imprisonment.
The case record says that the BNP men killed two AL activists on March 12 in 2003 during a clash about the election of Khalia Union Parishad election. – Court Correspondent
