Police arrested an alleged fugitive extortionist from Karimpur area in Rajnagar upazila of the district on Monday.The arrestee was identified as M Askir Miah, 45, son of Jahur Ullah of the area.Police said Askir had demanded Tk 2 lakh as toll from an expatriate’s mother named Churtun of the village.On refusal to give the money, a gang led by him swooped on her house and looted Tk 50,000 and gold ornaments weighing three tolas.Churtun filed a case against Askir who went into hiding and was issuing various threats to her for lifting the case, added police. – UNB, Sylhet
