A youth was killed and two other members of his family were injured reportedly in a gas explosion in the city’s Pallabi area early Tuesday. The deceased was identified as Arefin, 25, son of Mintu Miah of the area. The injured Minara Begum, 30, and Monwar Hossain, 40, were undergoing treatment at the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Inspector Mozammel Hossain, in-charge of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) police camp, said gas went off when Monwar lit a cigarette at a flat of house-53 around 5:30am, leaving the three burnt. They were first rushed to a local clinic and later shifted to the DMCH burn unit around 8:00am where Arefin succumbed to his injuries. The hospital sources said Monwar suffered burns on 58 percent of body while Minara 25 percent. – UNB
