Dhaka, April 08 – Major factories will shut down if gas price is increased and export earning will also be affected.
Besides, the small and medium type industrial units will sink into a deep sea if the decision of hiking gas price is materialized.
Newly elected president of Bangladesh Chamber of Industries (BCI) Anwar-ul Alam Chowdhury Parvez came up with while addressing at a press conference on the occasion of installation ceremony at a city
hotel yesterday.
“It is illogical to propose to increase gas price to 102.85 per cent in residential and industrial sectors despite the gas distribution company a profitable organization. It is totally unacceptable,” he said.
According to Parvez, not only price hike it also proposed to hike gas distribution charges too.

“It would be a great barrier to achieve the target of sustainable development goal (SDG) and vision 2041 becoming a developed nation if gas price is hiked. Many major industrial units and small medium entrepreneurs (SME) will shutdown their units because of the issue,” Parvez said.
The BCI president said country’s economy stands into a strong position due to the relentless attempts both by the government and private sector.
The national growth reached to eight per cent from seven per cent, he said, adding, “it is very important to keep continue the trend of national growth of gross domestic product (GDP). For this, it is important to give special attention for structural development and private sector,” Parvez observed.
