Gatco graft charge hearing against Khaleda July 26

Dhaka, June 24 – Hearing on charge framing against BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia in the Gatco graft case was yesterday (Sunday) deferred to July 26. Judge Abu Syed Dilger Hossain of the Special Judge Court-3 of Dhaka passed the order on Sunday after hearing at his temporarily set up court on the Aliya Madrasa ground of Bakshibazar in the city.
The High Court stayed the proceedings of the case on behalf of accused Tanvir Ahmed and Galib Hossain of the case. Citing this situation their lawyers sought deferment of the Gatco graft case while the court deferred the charge hearing to the new date.
On September 2, 2007, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the Gatco graft case against Khaleda Zia, her son late Arafat Rahman Koko, Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer death sentence executed in a case filed with ICT and 10 others.
According to the case statement, there was corruption in awarding a contract to Global Agro Trade (Private) Company Limited (Gatco) for container management at inland depots in Dhaka and Chattogram. – Special Correspondent
