Go to trial court for bail extension, SC asks Shafik Rehman

Dhaka – The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Thursday asked journalist Shafik Rehman to move the lower court for extending his bail in a case filed over an alleged plot to abduct and kill Prime Minister’s son Sajeeb Wazed Joy in the USA.
Following a petition filed seeking revision of its earlier order and extension of bail, the four-member Appellate Division bench, headed by Chief Justice SK Sinha, also ordered the trial court to consider his bail petition.
Senior lawyer AJ Mohammad Ali and M Asaduzzaman stood for Shafik Rehman while Attorney General Mahbubey Alam represented the state.
Asaduzzaman said the SC asked the lower court to grant Shafik Rehman bail in the case until police report.
On April 16, detectives arrested Shafik Rehman, former editor of the Bangla daily Jaijaidin from his Eskaton Garden residence in the city.
Shafik Rehman was shown arrested in a criminal conspiracy case filed with Paltan Police Station on August 3, 2015 in connection with the attempt to abduct and kill Joy. -UNB
