Gold seized at Shahjalal airport

Dhaka – Customs officials at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport arrested a Indian national and recovered 4 kgs gold from his possessions on Sunday afternoon.The arrested Indian citizen was identified as Rawshan Ali, 32, a resident of Kolkata, the capital of Indian estate West Bengal.

Contacted, Sohel Rahman, Joint Commissioner of Dhaka customs house, said a customs preventive team challenged Rawshan after he came out from a flight of Bangladesh Biman Airlines from Bangkok at around 4:00 pm. He arrived in the airport at around 3:30 pm as a transit passenger and he was scheduled to fly for Kalkata by another flight of the same airlines, he added.

Searching the travel bag of the Indian national, the customs officials recovered for gold bars each weight around one kg, Sohel Rahman said adding,” we have specific secret information that he will hand over the gold assignment to designated people in the airport.”

During preliminary interrogation, Rawshan revealed that earlier he brought several gold consignments here in similar way, said another customs official.
