Govt allocates 12,552 tonnes VGF rice for Rangpur division

The government has allocated 12,552.88 tonnes special VGF rice to assist 12,55,288 poor and distressed families celebrating the upcoming holy Eid-ul-Azha festivity in Rangpur division, official sources said.
Authorities of all 58-upazila administrations in association with the local public representatives have already started distribution of the rice under the special Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF) programme.The Ministry of Food and Disaster Management allocated the huge quantity of rice for distribution among the selected VGF card holder beneficiary families with 10-kg rice for each family in all eight districts in the division.As per direction of the concerned district administrations, the upazila administrations with the assistances of local public representatives duly prepared list of the beneficiary families to complete the rice distribution process before the Eid festivity.The rice is being distributed in presence of the union level VGF distribution committee members and concerned Tag Officers under supervision of the upazila and district administrations to maintain complete transparency in the distribution process. Under the programme, 1,823 tonnes of special VGF rice is being distributed among 1,82,300 beneficiary families with 10 kg each on the Eid-ul-Azha festivity in all 76 unions under eight upazilas of Rangpur. Similarly, 958.19 tonnes rice is being distribution among 95,819 distressed families in Lalmonirhat, 1,751.11 tonnes among 1,75,111
families in Gaibandha and 2,081.80 tonnes among 2,08,180 families in Kurigram districts.And 1,631.01 tonnes VGF rice is being distributed among 1,63,101
families in Nilphamari, 2,388.43 tonnes among 2,38,843 families in Dinajpur, 1,078.28 tonnes among 1,07,828 families in Thakurgaon and 841.06 tonnes among 84,106 families in Panchagarh.In addition to this, the government has also been distributing more VGF rice among the distressed families living in all pourasabhas in eight districts of Rangpur division, District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer of Rangpur Abdus Salam said.Like other pourashavas in the division, 46.21 tonnes special VGF rice is being distributed among 4,621 distressed families in Badarganj and Haragach pourasabhas in Rangpur, he added. –BSS, Rangpur
