Govt already suffered moral defeat: Fakhrul

Dhaka, Dec 27 – BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Thursday said the government has already suffered the ‘moral defeat’ as it is ‘using’ the state machinery to overcome the election hurdles.“We’ve already achieved the victory. The government has got a moral defeat as Awami League has to take the help of state machinery to face the election,” he said.
The BNP leader came up with the remarks while speaking at a press conference at Jatiya Oikyafront’s Purana Paltan office.
He said people are now united to bring a change in the government. “They (people) will achieve victory under the leadership of Dr Kamal Hossain through casting their votes for Sheaf of Paddy.”
Fakhrul called upon people to cast their votes for Sheaf of Paddy to ‘restore’ democracy and their ownership of the country.
He also called upon the media to present news objectively without bowing down to any pressure and intimidation as per the hopes and aspirations of people.
Krishak Sramik Janata League president Abdul Kader Siddiqui said the country’s people are united like that of 1969 and 1971. “It’s not true that the activists (of Oikyafront) are scared. The more they (AL) are repressing and harassing our leaders and activists the more people are getting aggrieved.”
He said the government and the Election Commission only harmed themselves with their activities after the announcement of the election schedule.
Kader Siddiqui criticised Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda and said he will be considered as the most ‘condemned’ person of the country like ‘Mir Jafar’ for the role he has been playing over the election.
Oikyafront chief Dr Kamal Hossain also spoke at the press conference and called upon people to stage a vote revolution on December 30 and ensure the victory of ‘Sheaf of Paddy’ candidates. – UNB
