Govt asks for sacrificing animals at 493 Dhaka, Ctg spots

The government has fixed specific points in the capital and the port city of Chittagong for sacrificing animals during Eid-ul-Azha to avoid pollution and filthiness.
Muslims have been requested to slaughter sacrificial animals at 493 spots in two city corporation areas of the capital and at 20 points in the Chittagong City Corporation area during the second largest religious festival of the Muslims.
The decision was taken at a meeting held at the secretariat with acting Local Government and Rural Development (LGRD) Secretary Abdul Malek in the chair.The meeting urged the Muslims residing in these city corporation areas to sacrifice animals at the selected points to avoid filthy and unhygienic environment which is created for slaughtering animals here and there, Malek told reporters after the meeting.
The meeting also asked other city corporations, municipalities and district administration to fix places for slaughtering animals.
Muslim devotees in Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) can slaughter animals in 285 points while 208 points have been fixed for the dwellers of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC).
However, the number of slaughterhouses may be increased if the situation demands so, the secretary added.
The LGRD Ministry will send a letter to the Religious Affairs Ministry to carry out a campaign urging the city dwellers to slaughter their animals at the specific points.
Meanwhile, the ministry has selected 10 points in the DSCC and six others in the DSCC for setting up temporary cattle markets ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.
However, no cattle market will be allowed by roads, hospitals and rail tracks for the sake of people easy movement.- UNB
