Govt. decries TI report

State Minister for Law Quamrul Islam on Wednesday said the recent Transparency International TI report that branded politician and police most corrupt is aimed at assassinating the character of politicians and making the judiciary controversial.“A conspiracy is going on against the country. A vested quarter is out to assassinate the characters of politicians and make the judiciary controversial. The Transparency International report is part of that conspiracy at this transitional period of the country,” he said.
Quamrul was addressing a discussion organised by Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote at Ramsita Mandir marking the Yath Jatra.
He said there is an attempt to create a 1/11-like situation. “An evil force is working to push the country into darkness. It is the political leaders who will govern the country. The attempt to assassinate the character of politicians won’t be successful.
The report released on Tuesday by the Berlin-based graft watchdog revealed that political parties and police are the most corrupt in Bangladesh followed by the judiciary.
Quamrul underscored the need for resisting communal force with a view to building a non-communal country. “That’s why we’ll have to wage a united resistance against religious fanatics.”
