Govt fears people, gives away sovereignty: Khaleda

BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia yesterday alleged the state sovereignty has been wakening day by day at the patronisation of the government which she termed usurper of power.
“Hegemonistic force wants to grab the entire country by signing secrets  agreements one after another by putting of a puppet government on state power,” she said in a statement issued Thursday to mark the National Revolution and Solidarity Day.
The former premier greeted the people to mark the day. The BNP observes the day on November 7 commemorating the 1975 uprising formed by the people and soldiers. The uprising, led by Colonel Abu Taher and his political group Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal, ended the three day coup organised by self-proclaimed Major General Khaled Mosharraf. It helped then Major General Ziaur Rahman, who is also the founder of BNP to come to power in the long run.
The day was observed by the state when the BNP was in power but the ruling Awami League government recognises it as neither a revolution nor a solidarity day. They denounce it as Freedom Fighters Killing Day.
In her statement, Khaleda Zia said uninterrupted aggression is going on the country’s traditional cultural and heritage, language and tradition due to subservient foreign policy of the “voter less government.”
She also alleged that the government is suppressing the opposition leaders and activists out brutally to cling on to power.
The former premier called upon the nationalist forces to be imbued with the sprit of November 7 to resist the aggression by hegemonists and to protect the country’s independence and sovereignty.
She recalled the history of November 7 and said the hegemonistic force and their local agents killed Ziaur Rahman in 1981 considering him as an obstacle to fulfill their desire.
Meanwhile, the BNP has taken various programmes to mark the day. As part of the programes, Khaleda Zia will visit the mazar of late President Ziaur Rahman at 10:00am. She will place wreath at the mazar and offer fateha for the eternal peace of his departed soul.
The BNP will hoist national and party flags at all of its offices including party headquarters at Naya Paltan Friday morning.
The BNP will arrange a public meeting at Suhrawardy Udyan on Sunday where Khaleda Zia will address as the chief guest.
Different front and associate organizations of BNP also organize discussion meetings to mark the day.
Doctors Association of Bangladesh will hold a discussion meeting at the Jatiya Press Club in the afternoon.
Meanwhile, BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed yesterday claimed that the prime minister is always afraid of the people.
