Govt finding way to reach relief materials to doorsteps: Maya

Dhaka – Relief and Disaster Management Minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya on Tuesday said the government is looking for the way for reaching relief materials to victims’ doorsteps during any natural disaster.
He came up with the information while addressing a workshop on ‘Community resilience: a holistic approach’ at Brac Centre Inn in the city, said a PID handout. UNB news agency reported
Maya said previous experiences say elderly people and women cannot come out of their houses during the natural calamities to collect relief materials. They are also not able to carry 20-30 kgs of relief materials.
Besides, there are allegations of irregularities in distributing the relief items, he said, adding that the government wants to ensure the rights of all to receive relief.
The minister also underscored the need for building a disaster-resilient nation by enhancing the country’s capability.
