Govt implementing anti-state steps to appease India: BNP

BNP on Friday alleged that the government is implementing various anti-state steps to enjoy India’s continued support to hang on to power as the country’s people have turned away from it. “A package programme with India is the only means for Sheikh Hasina (PM) to continue her misrule in Bangladesh…plans are being implemented one after another to gradually give Bangladesh a permanent settlement to India,” said BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi. Dhaka, UNB News Agency Reported.

He came up with the allegation while speaking at a press briefing at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office. The BNP leader said Rampal Thermal Power Plant is being set up near the Sundarbans ignoring the country’s interest and people’s protest and environmentalists’ concern only to appease India. He alleged that the government has also given India corridor in the name of providing transit facilities at only Tk 192 transit fee with the same appeasing tactic.

Rizvi said though the government is imposing tax burden on the country’s people, it is allowing India to transport its goods through Bangladesh territories with a nominal fee. He alleged the country’s people are not in any festive mood even ahead the Eid-ul-Fitr as Bangladesh has now turned into a country of killing, repression, harassment and ‘arrest business’.

The BNP leader also alleged people are also getting panicked just before the eid as the ruling party cadres are indulging in widespread extortion. “People have got fed up with the limitless extortion. The usurper and blood thirsty government has been in the driving seat of the state machinery. They buried the democratic principles such as public opinions, accountability and responsibility.”

He further alleged that on hand identified killers are getting presidential clemency as they belong to the ruling party and BNP leaders and activists are being sent to jail in false cases on the other.
