BNP standing committee member Nazrul Islam Khan yesterday alleged that they cannot hold party’s council due to government obstruction.
“Police are not allowing us to hold party’s council across the country. They are arresting party leaders and activists if 10 to 12 people are thronged at a place for council and filing false cases against them,” he said while addressing the council session of Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), an ally of BNP-led 20-party alliance at Institute of Engineers, Bangladesh.
He asked the party rank and file not to be frustrated due to police harassment.
“Awami League was out of power for 21 years as the consequence of establishing one-party government. This time, they again established BAKSAL like ruling. So, I will request our party leaders and activists not to be frustrated,” he said.
The BNP leader alleged that the government is using police as opponent of the BNP not Awami League.
He said the BNP-led alliance would continue its movement to restore democracy and hoped that they would be able to establish it through movement.
Presided over by LDP president Col (Retd) Oli Ahmed, the meeting was also addressed, among others by LDP secretary general Redwan Ahmed.
Meanwhile, addressing another meeting at the Jatiya Press Club, Nazrul alleged that the government is implicating party leaders and activists including Sadeque Hossain Khoka to keep them out from the election process.
The meeting presided over by Sutrapur thana BNP president Makbul Hossain Tipu, was also addressed among others, by Shamsuzzaman Dudu and Abdullah Al Noman.
