Govt lifts ban on social networking sites

The government on Monday lifted the temporary restriction on all mobile messaging and calling apps as well as social networking sites, including Viber, WhatsApp, Skype, Twitter and Imo.”We’ve withdrawn temporary restriction on all social networking sites as well as calling and messaging apps from now as per the decision of the government,” State Minister for Posts and Telecommunications Tarana Halim told BSS.Tarana said the government has taken the decision for the convenience of the people.She said all operators would receive necessary directive soon to unblock the apps and sites, but all the apps would be accessible again after activation.The government blocked Twitter, Skype and Imo on Sunday and put temporary restriction on Whatsapp, Viber and facebook-messenger on November 18 over security question.However, the popular social networking site facebook came alive on December 10 after 22 days following the government decision.
