Govt move to shift Khaleda to Keraniganj inhuman: BNP

Dhaka, March 28 – The BNP has termed the government move to transfer party’s ailing chairperson Khaleda Zia to Central Jail in Keraniganj inhuman.
“The construction work of Keraniganj prison is yet to be completed. There is no good arrangement of gas and water. Thus, any government move to shift Khaleda Zia to a under construction building is an
inhuman task,” said BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi at a press conference yesterday.
His comments came a day after the Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal told reporters that Khaleda Zia would be shifted soon from old central jail at Nazimuddin Road in the city to newly constructed central jail in Keraniganj.
The BNP chairperson is now serving her 17 years jail term at old central jail since February 8 last year in two graft cases.
Rizvi said when people are shouting the government for not to provide proper treatment to the former premier, the government is implementing its ‘inhuman agenda’ one after another.
“Begum Zia has been kept in the prison without any reason to make the opposition parties subservient. The Awami League government has no patience, humanity, honesty and empathy to opposition parties,” he alleged.
He demanded the government to immediately provide proper treatment to Khaleda Zia and saying her life has been endangered due to lack of proper treatment.
