Driver confesses to offence in mishap killing BUP pupil

Dhaka, March 28 – Suprobhat Paribahan bus driver on Thursday made a confessional statement admitting his offence in the case filed in connection with the death of Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) student Abrar Ahmed Chowdhury.
Magistrate Sadbir Yasir Ahsan Chowdhury of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka recorded the confessional statement of driver Sirajul Islam under section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC). Later, the court sent the driver Siraj to the jail.
On March 20, the court granted seven-days’ remand of Siraj. On Thursday, Investigation Officer of the case, Kazi Shariful Islam produced the accused to the court on completion of the remand and appealed to the court to record the confessional statement as Siraj voluntarily decided to give the statement.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday night, DB police conducted the campaign in Shahrasti area of Chandpur district and arrested conductor of the bus Yasin Arafat, 22 and following his information they arrested helper Ibrahim Hossain, 21 on Wednesday morning from Madda Badda of the city.
Abrar was run over by Suprobhat Paribahan bus on the morning of March 19, as he was trying to cross the road.
His father retired Brigadier General Arif Ahammed Chowdhury filed the case against the driver, his helper, conductor and owner of the bus on Tuesday night with Gulshan Police Station. – Special Correspondent
