Govt, opposition must resolve crisis together

President of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) Kazi Akram Uddin Ahmed on Wednesday said that both the government and the opposition would have to come to a position so the present political crisis can be resolved.
“We’ll have to come out of the situation which is continuing in the country. The government will have to think…discussion should also take place with the opposition leader,” he said while leading a 35-member delegation of the apex trade body during a meeting with Finance Minister AMA Muhith at the Secretariat.
Kazi Akram Uddin said the government would have to invite the opposition party and at the same time, the opposition would also have to respond for discussion. “It won’t work if one turns her face away from the other. We want to carry out business peacefully as we want development of the country including economic development.”
He said that the business leaders have already met with the Prime Minister and would also go to the opposition leader if they are allowed to discuss the way out for the businesses from the present political turmoil.
Mentioning that the businessmen are in danger in the wake of present political crisis, the FBCCI president said that an alternative way would have to be found out to come out of the critical situation.
Showing respect to the two major political parties, he said: “The politicians are patriotic. I firmly believe they’ll never engage in destructive activities… businessmen are now becoming hostages, but we want welfare of the country,”
“The businessmen are ready to work as a complementary force of the government,” the apex trade body chief said and hoped that Bangladesh would emerge as rising tiger and an economic hub in the region in future.
FBCCI vice president M Helal Uddin said it is high time to ban hartal by enacting a law or through a referendum.
FBCCI first Vice-President Monowara Hakim Ali and other directors of the Federation were present on the occasion.
