Govt ready for talks: Suranjit

Minister without portfolio Suranjit Sengupta on Sunday said the government is ready for talks with the opposition over the framework of the polls-time administration in line with the constitution.   “We’re, of course, ready for discussions if the opposition gives a framework of the government they wants during the polls in line with the constitution or agenda for talks,” he said.   Suranjit made the call to the opposition while addressing a protest rally at the Institute of Diploma Engineers in the capital arranged by Nouka Samarthak Goshthi, a pro-Awami League forum.   The veteran ruling party leader said there is no scope of holding a lopsided general election. “Thee election will be held with the participation of all parties. The election in Bangladesh will be held as per the formula followed in all other countries in the world. There’s no point spreading panic among people over the issue.”   Mentioning that Parliament will go into session on September 12, he said the opposition can come up with its formula in the House or outside it. “We’ll resolve the political crisis after discussing and examining the opposition’s formula. There’s no need for seeking help from foreign mediators.”   The minister expressed concern that militants are raising their heads again in the country by different names ahead of the election. “Their evil activities are making us frightened.”   He called upon the government and the opposition to work together to rein in militancy. – UNB
