Govt success claims false: BNP

BNP Standing Committee Member Khandker Mosharraf Hossain on Monday described claims of government successes “as nothing but false information.”

“What the government gifted in the last four years is corruption and embezzlements, including the one took place in Padma bridge project, and making opposition leaders and activists victims to disappearances and killing them,” said Hossain, while speaking at the National Press Club at a discussion organised by the Sangbidhanik Odhikar Forum..

“They (the government) has raised fuel oil price to benefit its henchmen who own quick rental power plants. The government has done nothing for welfare of the people,” he said.” The government has no success. They only know how to deceive people through statements.”

The BNP led 18-party opposition alliance enforced a daylong nationwide strike on Sunday , the day when the Awami League government celebrated its fourth year in the power.

Referring to the killing of BNP leader Rafiqul Islam Majumder, Hossain said, “The government has built a Gestapo force that makes Opposition activists disappear and then they are found killed.”

“RAB (Rapid Action Battalion) picked up Rafiqul from his in-law’s house. And now they are saying they did not kil him. Then who killed Rafiq?” asked Hossain.

“Thousands of freedom fighters and opposition leaders-activists had just disappeared and were then killed during 1972-75. The current law and order and human rights situation is worse than in 1975.”

Police recovered Rafiqul’s handcuffed body from Kumarkhali in Kustia at 11pm on Saturday night. He was General Secretary of BNP’s 56 no Ward in Dhaka.

Family members allege men in black RAB-type uniforms had picked him up in a microbus. (bdnews24.com)
