Govt wants to cling to power without involving people

Acting secretary general of the opposition BNP Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Saturday said the government wants to cling to power by holding elections without involvement of people as the ruling Awami League (AL) has become politically bankrupt. “This election has now really turned into not only a farcical, butt of jokes,” he said in a statement issued on Saturday. The BNP leader said Sunday’s election which is going to be held by keeping the opposition leader under house arrest and BNP offices closed and unleashing the state terrorism is nothing but farcical.
He urged farmers, workers, middle class, professionals, civil society, business community, development workers, devotees and members all communities to express their all-out support to the call of opposition leader Khaleda Zia to boycott the January 5 farcical elections to protect the independence and sovereignty of the country and uphold the national dignity  and democratic rights.
Fakhrul also called upon the people to boycott the elections to defeat what he said all fascist conspiracies of the AL against independence and sovereignty of the country and democracy
He said the anti-people government is going to hold the voter and candidate less farcical elections ignoring the demands of the people where 153 candidates have already been elected uncontested.
“In assistance with joint forces, an election drama is being staged in the rest of the constituencies,” he added.
He mentioned that almost all political parties, organizations, professional bodies, eminent citizens, editors and many countries and international organisations including the United Nations and Commonwealth, the USA, UK, Canada, European Union, Japan and China and mass media both at home and abroad urged the government to postpone the farcical elections.
The BNP leader alleged being defeated socially, morally and politically, the AL is going to establish autocratic one-man rule by using force destroying all democratic norms.
He said the people upholding the sprit of liberation war would accept the facial election of the Al government who has already rejected it through waging movement.
“We want to peacefully reply to the fascist anarchism… The just movement of the people never goes in vain. Victory of Bangladeshi people is ascertained,” he said. – Staff Reporter
