Govt’s stubbornness blocking dialogue: Fakhrul

BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Thursday alleged that political dialogue over the polls-time interim government is not being held due to the government’s stubbornness.“Our leader (Khaleda) has repeatedly been saying for sitting in a dialogue to overcome the ongoing political crisis, but the government is not paying heed to it. A serious crisis has been created in the country due to the government’s waywardness,” he said.
The BNP leader also alleged that the government is foiling the prospect of talks by putting the opposition leaders and activist in jails.
Fakhrul brought the allegations while talking to reporters after placing wreaths along with BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia and other party leaders and activists at the grave of party founder late president Ziaur Rahman, marking his 32nd death anniversary.
He, however, hoped that a good sense will prevail upon the government to reinstate the caretaker government system shunning its repressive acts against the opposition leaders and activists. Or else, he warned that the ongoing anti-government movement will be intensified further to establish people’s democratic rights.
“Those raising voice against the government’s misdeeds are being tortured.

Today is an important day for us. Shaheed Zia had consolidated the democracy in the country. We’ll protect it even by sacrificing the last drop of our blood,” the BNP leader added.
Fakhrul came home from Singapore on Wednesday evening, 15 days after his treatment at Singapore National University Hospital. (Source: UNB)
