The Anti-Corruption Commission on Tuesday filed a case against BNP standing committee member Barrister Moudud Ahmed for illegally grabbing a government-owned house valued Tk 300 crore. Manjur Ahmed, bother of Moudud Ahmed, has also been accused in the case.ACC deputy director Harun-or-Rashid filed the case (No. 19) with Gulshan Police Station, according to an official of the commission.
According to the First Information Report (FIR) of the case, Moudud Ahmed has been occupying the house at 159 Gulshan Avenue for a long time.
Austrian citizen Angels Falls was the original owner of the house and her Pakistani husband was living at the house after her death. The house was enlisted as abandoned property as her husband left the country during the war of liberation in 1971.
It said Moudud Ahmed took allocation of the house from the government using his influence and power by preparing power of attorney in the name of his brother who lives in London. According to the record of Dhaka City Corporation, Moudud Ahmed himself is the only tenant of the house.
An ACC official said the process to grab the house was completed in between 1977 to 1989. The commission gave approval to file the case after getting evidence by carrying out a long investigation based on fact, he added. – Staff Reporter
