Gram police strangled to death in Mymensingh

MYMENSINGH- A Gram Police (Chowkidar) was strangled to death in Phulpur upazila of the district early today (Friday), after three days of union parishad election, allegedly by the supporters of a defeated candidate.The deceased Idris Ali, 50, is a resident of Narikeli village in Bhaitakandi union of the upazila.Quoting family and local sources, Ali Ahmed Mollah, Officer-in-Charge of Phulpur Police Station said, there had been a feud over the union parishad election between the member candidate Abdul Majid and Chowkidar Idris Ali.

Majid became furious as Idris Ali worked for his rival Noor Islam who won the election by a margin of three votes, said the OC. According to family members of Idris, Majid along with his men went to the victim’s house to patch up the differences and took Idris out of his residence at around 12:00am, police said.As Idris did not return even after two hours, Idris’s son Ashiqul Islam informed police. Police went to the place and searched out the body of Idris from a field nearby.Idris might be killed over the disputes between the two member candidates, OC Mollah added.Police sent the body with marks on the neck to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for autopsy.Police has detained four persons- Majid’s son Mahbub Hossain, 21, Majid’s brother Md Shahjahan, 35, Suruj Ali, 55, and Mahmudul Islam, 25, in connection with the killing incident.They are under interrogation at the police station. Search is on to get Majid, police said.Victim’s son Ashiqul Islam lodged a murder case with Phulpur Police Station this afternoon.(BSS)
