Greater use of ICT to stop women violence stressed

Speakers at a function here on Sunday underscored the need for the increased use of ICT and enforcing related laws effectively, aiming to stop violence against women in the country. They were addressing the concluding ceremony of a two-day anti-corruption shadow parliament debate competition, titled ‘Good governance and effectively prevention of corruption are needed to ensure equal development of women’.reaterTransparency International Bangladesh (TIB) organised the programme at BanglaAcademy in the afternoon. Speaking as the chief guest, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid said everyone should respect each other. “We must change our mindset to ensure the rights of women. A social movement should be waged to ensure the security of women.” He also urged the young generation to come forward to build a transparent, skilled and develop nation though ensuring a world standard education system. TIB executive director Dr Iftakharuzzaman said the sprit of the Liberation War could not be reflected at all stages.“And even if we couldn’t honour the female freedom fighters yet, but I do believe the new generation will show respect to the women properly.” He said when people lose their morality, it would be quite impossible to ensure justice. TIB trustee board secretary general Selina Hosen was present on the occasion.
According to the findings of a survey conducted by NationalHeartFoundationHospital and Research Institute, the people of Bangladesh intake salt double than the ideal amount, creating health hazards. As per the WHO, an adult needs to intake 5gm salt a day, but the survey found that an urban dweller intakes 10.3 gm salt a day on average, the double of the ideal amount. In urban areas, a man intakes 11 gm salt, while woman eats 9.3 gm a day on average, the study said. – UNB
