ACC seeks wealth info of 2 sitting, former MPs

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has sought wealth statements of Awami League lawmaker Aslamul Haque Aslam and former Jatiya Party MP M Abdul Jabbar and their family members.
The commission on Sunday served sent notices to Aslamul Haque, MP and his wife Maksuda Haque, Abdul Jabbar, his wife Firoza Begum, and his three sons—Faruk Hossain, Sayed Hossain and Mahabub Hossain to submit their wealth statements within seven working days, said an ACC official.Earlier, the commission quizzed both Aslam of Dhaka-14 constituency, and Jabbar, a former lawmaker from Satkhira-2, over disproportionately high growth of their wealth.
After facing ACC interrogation on March 5, Aslam however claimed that in his affidavit submitted to the Election Commission it was mentioned by mistake that he possessed 145 acres of land while the actual figure was 1.45 acres.
He further said he possessed 1.45 acres of land based on a power of attorney executed by the owner of the land.
Aslam told reporters that his tax lawyer made the mistake about his land in the affidavit he submitted along with nomination papers prior to the January 5 general elections.
Aslamul Haque’s affidavit that he submitted before the EC prior to parliamentary polls in 2008 revealed that he had six acres of land. In 2014, according to his affidavit submitted to election commission, Aslam now possessed 145 acres of land and owned a couple of power plants installed on his land. – Staff Reporter
