Habiganj’s Muhibor to die; his brother, cousin jailed till death

Dhaka – The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) on Wednesday handed down death sentence to Muhibor Rahman Boro Mia of Baniachang upazila of Habiganj district for crimes against humanity he had committed during the Liberation War in 1971.
The tribunal also awarded imprisonment till death to Mujibur Rahman alias Angur Mia, younger brother of Muhibor, and their cousin Abdur Razzak for crimes against humanity during the war.

The three-member tribunal, headed by Justice M Anwarul Haque, pronounced the judgment against the trio in the morning.
Two other judges – Justice Shahinur Islam and Mohammad Sohrowardy – also attended the tribunal.
Prosecutor Sultan Mahmud Shimon expressed his satisfaction with the verdict.
Masud Rana, counsellor for the death convict, said they will file a petition against the judgment.
Earlier on Tuesday, the tribunal fixed today for delivering the judgment against the trio.
On May 11, closing the law point arguments from both the prosecution and the defence, the ICT kept pending its verdict for any day.
On February 11, 2014, Nur Hossain, investigation officer of the case, started investigation against the three who were arrested from their houses on February 10, 2015.
On September 29, 2015, the tribunal took cognisance of the cases filed against the three.
