20-Party extends hartal by another 36 hours

BNP-led 20-party alliance on Tuesday further extended the ongoing 72-hour countrywide hartal for another 36-hour ending 6:00pm on Thursday in protest against carrying out homicide by joint forces without accepting its demand, resorting to killing, enforced disappearance, attacks and filling of cases and the mass arrest.
The hartal has also been extended protesting carrying out repression on journalists, media workers, controlling mass media, interfering in judiciary and filling of “false cases” against BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia and other top leaders of the alliance and eminent citizens.BNP joint secretary general Salahuddin Ahmed announced the programme through a press statement from an unidentified location saying that the hartal would be enforced along with the ongoing countrywide blockade programme that passed 29th day yesterday.
He expressed his determination to continue the ongoing “peaceful and democratic” movement until the government announces a declaration for an inclusive poll after tendering resignation.
The BNP leader claimed that the pro-democratic people are now united under the leadership of Khaleda Zia and ongoing movement has almost reached the door step of victory.
He protested the killing of BNP-Jamaat activists by calling them by DB police from their homes and demanded the trial for the killings.
“The government will not be able to protect itself finally by turning the entire country into a death valley,” he said.
He accused the government of hurling petrol bombs by its agents and the alleged attempt to shift their responsibility to the opposition.
Salahuddin, on behalf of former premier, called upon the leaders and activists of the BNP, its allies as well as all patriotic and pro-democratic people to observe the programme successfully. – Staff Reporter
