72-hour hartal on CHT Land Commission Bill ends

The 72-hour hartal enforced by Parbatya Bangalee Chhatra Parishad (PBCP) and Parbatya Nagorik Parisahd protesting the placing of the CHT Land Commission (Amendment) Bill in Parliament ended in three hill districts on Thursday.There was no report of any untoward incident in Rangamati, Bandarban and Khagrachhari on the last day of the shutdown.
In Rangamati, hartal supporters picketed in Banarupa and Reserve Bazar areas by burning tyres on the roads in the morning. Later, police dispersed them.
The vehicular movement was thin and most of the shops in the town kept their shutters down.
On the last day of the hartal, no long-route bus entered or left the district. Even no launches left for their destination due to the hartal.
The 3dr day of the 72-hour hartal passed off in Bandarban and Khagrachhari districts peacefully. No pickets seen active on the roads in the two districts and the vehicular movement was normal.
The decision of shutdown was taken after a joint meeting of the two groups on Sunday night.(Source: UNB)
