Hasina, Khaleda favour eliminating badmouth

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday welcomed opposition leader Khaleda Zia’s proposal for putting an end to badmouthing in Parliament  by some young MPs both from the treasury and opposition benches.“I welcome her proposal to stop such abusive words in Parliament,” she said taking part in the general discussion on the proposed budget for the next fiscal.
Hasina said some MPs used abusive and filthy words in parliament, which are nothing but rotten for children at home. “They (children)  are often asking their parents what are the meaning of these words,” she said.
The Prime Minister said the opposition leader raised a very good point as such swearing should be stopped in Parliament right away. “We also don’t want badmouthing to continue in the House.”
Sheikh Hasina, however, alleged that the opposition MPs first started using obscene words and then it spread.
Hasina said democracy is in fact a matter of practice by which it becomes stronger day by day. “A complete democracy can’t be achieved overnight. So, we’ll have to practice this and provide a strong base for it,” she said.
Earlier, opposition leader Khaleda Zia also said badmouthing against national leaders in the House by some MPs have been very regretful as it caused a deep scar to the nation.
She requested all to refrain from swearing in the House. (Source: UNB)
