Dhaka, Sept 27 (UNB) – Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, now in the United States to attend the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session, turns 73 on Saturday.
Hasina, the elder daughter of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, was born at Tungipara in Gopalganj on this day in 1947.
Awami League and its associates have chalked out elaborate programmes to mark the day as they did in previous years.
On the occasion, Milad and doa mahfils will be offered in the capital city and different parts of the country.
Special prayers will also be offered at different worship places seeking good health and long life of the Prime Minister.
Awami League will arrange a discussion programme on Saturday afternoon at Krishibid Institution Auditorium in the capital on the occasion.
Besides, all the associate bodies of Awami League will celebrate the day across the country, including the capital, with various programmes, including rally, discussion, and photo exhibition.
Meanwhile, President Abdul Hamid warmly congratulated the Prime Minister on her birthday.
In a message, the President recalled the immense contributions of the Prime Minister to development of the country, restoration of democracy and ensuring good governance and people’s rights. “Her contributions to the country and people’s welfare will ever be remembered…Bangladesh will march towards the desired direction of development and prosperity under her leadership,” he said.
Abdul Hamid wished good health, long life, happiness and prosperity and continued welfare of the Prime Minister and her all family members.
Hasina was elected AL president in February 1981 while she was in exile. She and her sister Sheikh Rehana were abroad when Bangabandhu and most of his family were assassinated in August 1975. She returned home on May 17, 1981.
Hasina led the Awami League four times to power in 1996 and 2008, 2014 and 2018.
