Dhaka – The High Court Division of the Supreme Court on Tuesday issued a contempt of court rule against four owners of three restaurants for running their business in Dhaka’s Dhanmondi residential area violating its order.The rule of the High Court asked the owners of Soi 3, Bittersweet and Fork Knife restaurants- Bushra, Roksana Begum, Segupta Hasan, and Shahjamal to explain in four weeks as to why actions should not be taken against them on charge of contempt of court.
The High Court bench of Justice Md Ashfaqul Islam and Justice Ashis Ranjan Das passed the order and issued the rule following a contempt of court petition moved by Advocat Manzill Murshid, President of Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh.
During the hearing, Manzil Murshid told the court that on June 11, 2012, the High Court directed the authorities concerned to stop their business operation in Dhanmondi residential area. He further said that violating the HC directives, the restaurant owners have been running their business in the residential area and it is tantamount to contempt of the court. – Special Correspondent
