HC orders arrest of Jubo League leader

Dhaka – The High Court on Wednesday asked police to arrest a Jubo League central leader for not appearing before it despite frequent summons.

The court ordered officer-in-charge of Ramna Police Station to arrest Jubo League leader Shoeb Chowdhury, also president of Siddheswari Boys’ School and College managing committee, and produce him before it on February 12.The HC also asked the managing director of Toma Group, a construction firm, to appear before it on the day.

The High Court bench of Justice Quazi Reza-UL Hoque and Justice ABM Altaf Hossain came up with the order after hearing a writ petition filed by president of Siddheswari Apartment and Bari Malik Samity Aminul Islam challenging the legality of leasing out the playground of the educational institution to Toma Group for stocking construction materials.

Following the petition, the court on June 19 last year issued a rule in this regard.

Petitioner’s counsel Dr Yunus Ali Akand told reporters that the court ordered to arrest Shoeb as he did not appear before the court despite frequent summons.

However, Deputy Attorney General Bishwajit Roy said Shoeb is a member of the school managing committee, not chairman. – UNB
