HC reprimands ACC official for notice to college principal

The High Court on Thursday reprimanded an Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) official for his bid to harass a college principal and asked him to perform duty considering him as a public servant.

An HC bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice KM Hafizul Alam came up with the remarks while disposing of a rule issued earlier in this regard.

Court sources said ACC Deputy Assistant Director Md Al Amin on February 11 last served a notice on Md Nizam Uddin, principal of Elisha Islamia Model Degree College in Bhola Sadar upazila, asking him to appear before him on the same day over the allegation of misappropriating Tk 45,880,000 through providing jobs on fake certificates.

Later, Nizam Uddin filed a writ petition with the High Court challenging the legality of the notice while the court stayed the ACC notice and issued a rule in this regard.On November 15, the HC asked Al Amin to appear before it on December 6 to explain his stance.The court asked the ACC official to perform his duties considering himself as an employee of the republic.
