HC stays copyright order on Masud Rana, Kuasha series

Dhaka, Sept 10 – The High Court on Thursday stayed the decision of Copyright Office Bangladesh for one month that gave the copyright of 260 Masud Rana books and 50 books of Kuasha series to Sheikh Abdul Hakim. Justice Md Ashfaqul Islam and Justice Mohammad Ali’s bench passed the order after hearing a writ petition filed by Qazi Anwar Hossain.
Senior advocate AM Amin Uddin and Barrister ABM Hamidul Misbah moved the petition. The bench also issued a rule in this regard.
The court asked the Cultural Affairs Secretary, Copyright Office Bangladesh, Registrar of Copyright and Copyright Board to explain why the Copyright Office’s June 14 decision should not be declared illegal.
Hakim filed a complaint with the Copyright Office on July 29 last year against Anwar Hossain for violating the Copyright Act, claiming ownership of 260 books in the Masud Rana series and 50 books in the Kuasha series.
After more than a year of legal battle, the Copyright Office ruled in favour of Hakim on June 14. – UNB
