The High Court has summoned BNP leader Gayeshwar Chandra Roy for a remark he made which the court considers defamatory.
The bench of Justices Quazi Reza-Ul Hoque and ABM Altaf Hossain issued the suo-moto order on Monday.
The BNP Standing Committee member has been asked to appear on April 20.At a protest programme by the BNP-backed Doctors’ Association of Bangladesh (DAB) on Sunday, Roy said: “All courts are now in the pockets of Mujib Coat”.
The bench also summoned DAB Vice President Prof MA Salam and Secretary General AZM Zahid Hossain.
It wanted to know why action should not be taken against them on charges of contempt of court.
The order was given based on two reports published in the vernacular dailies ‘Prothom Alo’ and ‘Janakantha’.
The BNP leader reportedly said his party leaders had alleged that the government was influencing the courts to prevent the release of arrested leaders.-bdnews24.com
