Hearing in 11 cases against Khaleda Feb 5

Dhaka – The Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court of Dhaka on Monday fixed February 5, 2018, for hearing in 11 cases including a sedition case filed against BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia and others.Judge Md Kamrul Hossain Mollah of the court passed the order granting time petitions submitted on behalf of the BNP Chief.
Of the remaining 10 cases, eight were lodged with Daru-us- Salaam Police Station and other two cases were filed with Jatrabai Police Station of the capital in connection with arson attacks on vehicles in 2015.
On January 25, last year, Supreme Court lawyer Dr Mumtaz Uddin Ahmed Mehedi lodged the sedition case with the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka for her alleged derogatory remarks over the number of martyrs in the Liberation War of Bangladesh.
The case statement says that speaking at a discussion on December 21, last year, Khaleda Zia expressed doubts about government claims that nearly three million people had died during the Liberation War of 1971. She reportedly said, “There is a debate about how many hundreds of thousands were martyred in the Liberation War. Different books give different accounts.” – Special Correspondent
