Queen Elizabeth responds to article on Rohingya Issue

Prof. M Zahidul Haque

Recently, an article of mine on the recent visit of Jordan Queen Rania Al-Abdullah to Rohingya refugee camp in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh plus Rohingya crisis was published in your esteemed daily wherein I had focused on some important aspects concerning the Rohingya plight. Being a conscious citizen with a view to generate support, I sent copies of that article to some important personalities with whom I keep correspondence.I also sent the same to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II who takes much interest in humanitarian matters to inform her about the Rohingya crisis and the international concern. It may be mentioned here that our Honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has expressed her firm determination to help the Rohingyas on humanitarian ground and she is doing everything possible for the welfare of the Rohingya refugees. Under her prudent and dynamic leadership recently an agreement has been signed between Bangladesh and Myanmar on the issue of repatriation of Rohingya refugees to their homeland, Rakhine state in Myanmar.  We are hopeful that the Rohingyas will go back to their homeland under a transparent repatriation scheme to be designed following the Bangladesh-Myanmar truce.

Meanwhile, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was pleased to send my letter to the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs. A scanned copy of the reply I have received from The Buckingham Palace is reproduced below:
