Hefajat calls CJ: Foil conspiracy against Islam as state religion

Dhaka – Hefajat-e-Islam Bangladesh on Monday submitted a memorandum to the Chief Justice demanding to take steps against what they called conspiracy against Islam’s status as state religion in the constitution.

Allama Nur Hossain Kashemi, convener of Dhaka metropolitan unit of Hefajat, along with 30-35 leaders and activists of the organisation, filed the memorandum with Registrar General of the Supreme Court Syed Aminul Islam around 11am.
The High Court is likely to hear today (Monday) a writ petition challenging the legality of making Islam ‘state religion’ in the constitution.
A HC special bench comprising Justice Naima Haider is scueduled to hear the petition around 2pm. – UNB
