Dhaka, March 27 – The bus of Suprobhat Paribahan that ran over a student and sparked heavy protest among the students and locals, was being driven by its conductor.
Sirajul Islam, who was designated driver of the bus, detained by traffic police at Banshtala area of Shahjadpur for running over a student of Mirpur Girls Ideal Laboratory College named Synthia Islam

After police held the driver for running over the girl, the conductor Md Yasin Arafat took the steering and ran the student over at Nodda area near Bashundhara gate.
Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) disclosed
Abdul Baten, an additional commissioner of DB police spoke to the reporter and disclosed the matter. He said, “Md Yasin, the conductor driving the bus during the accident does not have a driving licence.”
“After the accident, we arrested the driver Sirajul and then found that the vehicle was being driven by Yasin, the conductor,” said Baten.

The commissioner said, “Yasin took the steering and drove away swiftly to avoid capture of the vehicle while the traffic police were taking the bus driver Sirajul into custody for ran over Synthia.”
Only around 10 minutes after the conductor had taken over the wheel, he drove the bus right on top of Abrar Ahmed near the gates of Bashundhara Residential. The conductor and the helper had managed to
flee the scene.
“The bus owner told the conductor Md Yasin to flee the scene with the bus over
“Yasin was handed over to the court. After giving the statement under section 164, we will issue charge sheets within a month’s in this regard,” Abdul Baten added.
Earlier on March 19, Abrar, son of retired brigadier general Arif Ahmed Chowdhury of Bashundhara area and an honours
Suprabhat Paribahan bus hit him while crossing the Pragati Swarani.
The victim, Abrar Ahmed Chowdhury, himself a road safety campaigner, met his tragic end at a time when DMP was observing traffic week to bring discipline on the city streets.
