Helper ‘tries’ to strangle CU girl on moving bus

Chattogram, Apr 12 (UNB) – The helper of a bus reportedly tried to strangle a female student of Chittagong University (CU) on his moving vehicle in the city on Thursday when she was the lone passenger inside.

A case was filed with Kotwali Police Station in this regard on Friday and police launched a drive to identify and arrest the bus helper and driver, said officer-in-charge of the police station Mohammad Mohsin.

He said the female CU student boarded the New Market-bound bus running on route-3 at Gate-1 of the university around 3pm on Thursday.

All the passengers but the victim got down from the bus at Reazuddin Road around 4:30pm and the bus started moving towards Station Road changing its original route, the OC said.

As the girl asked the driver to stop the bus out of fear, the bus helper rushed to her and tried to strangle her with her scarf, he said.

Desperate to save herself, the girl hit the helper with her mobile phone, rushed to the door and jumped off the moving bus.

Later, she returned home in a rickshaw with bruises all over her body.

CU Vice-chancellor Prof Dr Iftekhar Uddin Chowdhury said he talked to Chittagong Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mahbubur Rahman and urged him to arrest the bus driver and his helper.

Besides, students formed a human chain on the campus on Friday demanding arrest of the culprits.
