A housewife was beaten to death allegedly by her husband at Jhama village in Mohammadpur upazila on Friday. The deceased was identified as Runa Khatun, 30, wife of Jahid Molla of the village.
Quoting locals, Manirul Islam, officer-in-charge of Mohammadpur Police Station, said Jahid had married Runa Begum, daughter of Abdul Baki of Boalmari upazila in Faridpur district, 10 years back.The couple had three daughters. However, Jahid started torturing Runa for dowry since after some years of their marriage. On Friday morning, Jahid forced Runa to bring some money as dowry from her father’s house.
As Runa refused to do that, Jahid beat her mercilessly, leaving her dead on the spot. Later, Jahid hung the body with the ceiling of the house to give it a form of suicide case.
Being informed, police recovered the body and sent to Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy. Police could not arrest Jahid as he went into hiding.
