Dhaka – A housewife was strangulated to death allegedly by her husband for dowry at Ghiba village in Benapole here on Monday night.The deceased was identified as Shefali Khatun Shefa,20, wife of Shariful Islam Kalu and daughter of Badol Hossain of the same village,UNB News Agency Reported.
Officer-in-charge of Benapole Port Police Station Apurba Hasan said on information from locals, police went to the spot, recovered the hanging body of Shefa and sent it to Jessore Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy.Badal Hossain, father of the deceased, claimed Shariful had been putting pressure on Shefa for dowry since after their marriage.They provided Tk3 lakh to Shariful in two terms.Whenever Shefa refused to meet his demand any further, he inflicted torture on her.Shariful beat Shefa mercilessly about 11:30pm as she refused to meet a fresh such demand he made recently.At one stage of altercation over the issue, Shariful strangled her and later hung the body to prove that she had committed suicide Shariful and his family members went into hiding after the incident.A case was filed in this connection.
